Phase 9 of 12

A shadow of the first century Church

The Feast of Pentecost is a model or blue print of the day of Pentecost that the first century Church experienced, while they waited for the promise of the Father at Jerusalem.(Acts.1:4) This feast is also called the Feast of Weeks (Exod.34:22) and the Feast of Harvest.(Exod.23:16) It was a time of Israel's grain harvest, the first of two harvests in their calendar year. The other harvest was the fruit harvest which was in the seventh month, during the Feast of Tabernacles.[Note: Phase.11] In order to gather in these two harvests, there were two rains, a former (early rain) and a latter rain. The former rain came before the grain harvest and the latter rain came before the fruit harvest. (Deut.11:14) These Feasts and rains are typical (i.e. types and shadow Col.2:16, James.5:7) language that the prophet Joel and other's used to speak of the New Testament Church. This is the language of the Kingdom of God. (1Peter.1:10-12, Rom.16:25-26) Review Phase 6

This feast was a different and distinct feast from Passover, and was required of The Church in the Wilderness. (Deut.16:16)

A brief outline of the Feast of Pentecost and why it typifies the Baptism in the Holy Ghost

First
. The apostle Peter said "this (the Baptism in the Holy Ghost) is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel." (Acts.2:17, Joel.2:18-32, 1Peter.1:10-12) How did Joel speak of the the day of Pentecost? He spoke using the language of the feast of Pentecost. Joel said there would be a former rain (Deut.11:14) and the "floors shall be full of wheat..." (Lev.23:15-21) from the harvest that was to come. (Joel.2:24) This is what happened with the first century Church. There was a rain of God's Spirit (Deut.32:2, John.16:13, John.7:37-38, 1Cor.10:4, Titus.3:5) and a great harvest time! (Matt.9:35-38, Luke.10:1-2, Acts.2:41;4:4;5:14)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second. The reason "devout men, out of every nation" were at Jerusalem was to celebrated the Feast of Pentecost, Weeks, Harvest. (Acts.2:5) This was God's requirement, that Israel was to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost at Jerusalem. (Deut.16:9-12, Deut.12:1-12, 1Chron.22:17-19) That is why Acts.2:1 reads, "And when the day of Pentecost (i.e. the feast fifty days after Passover) had fully come..."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Third. God is honoring the pattern is His Word. Jesus was crucified (as the true Passover), Jesus was buried (Unleavened Bread) and was resurrected (Firstfruits) Then, 50 days later God poured out His Spirit on the day of Pentecost. (Review Phase 8) This is why the disciples tarried (i.e. waited) because God was being faithful to His patterns. He is a God of Law and order. Today there is no need to "tarry." Peter's words confirm this. On the same day he told the people that "were pricked in their heart" (Acts.2:37) to "Repent (Passover), and be baptized (Unleavened Bread)...and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Firstfruits / Pentecost Note: The reason why "Firstfruits and Pentecost" are placed together, is because the Baptism in the Holy Ghost is a confirmation that Jesus had indeed resurrected and was Glorified and sitting at the Fathers right hand. John.7:39, Acts.2:1-11;2:30, Eph.1:20) After our Baptism in the Holy Ghost we should walk in "newness (i.e. resurrected) of Life" (Rom.6:1-6) All the apostles made this distinct of being Saved, Water Baptized and being filled with Holy Spirit.(Acts.2:38;8:5-25;9:17;10:44-48;19:1-7) Paul used the blueprint (pattern) to explain the distinction. He said "all our fathers (that had been redeemed by the blood of the Passover) were all baptized in the cloud and in the sea. (1Cor.10:1-2)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fourth. Some say when Peter said, "this is that which was spoken by Joel," he was not referring to the day of Pentecost but to the the time of the end. Their reason for concluding this is because on the day of Pentecost, the moon did not turn to blood, and the sun was not darkened.(Acts.2:19-20) This is true. How then can we say that Joel was speaking of the day of Pentecost? The answer to this question is, the Holy Spirit through Peter was speaking of 1000 year days, (2Peter.3:8-9, Psa.90:4) the last two days of God's Redemptive week. the fifth and sixth day. (Review Phase 3) John said, it's the last time. (1John.2:18) Paul spoke of his day being the last days.(Heb.1:1-2) The last days actually begins at the day of Pentecost. Remember: These scriptures are inspired of the Holy Ghost (i.e. God breathed words)! Some teach the apostles were mistaken. There is no mistake

This was a NEW meat (food) offering (Lev.23:16)
It was a new meat ( i.e. food - Heb.) offering because there was leaven baked into it.(Lev.23:17) There was no leaven permitted in this offering,(Lev.2:11) yet God instructed the "Church in the wilderness" to place leaven in this offering. (A review of Phase 8, leaven is the weakness of human flesh, sin) What is being foreshadowed in this feast is the weakness of humanity with the Divine. Christ being the head of the body, the Church with leaven baked into it. [Note: There was no leaven in Passover, because this foreshadows Christ, and there is no leaven in the Feast of Tabernacles, (Phase 11) because it is a picture of a Glorious Church just like Jesus, without spots, blemish, holy and without blame.(Eph.5:21-33, 2Peter.3:14) As of the time of these notes, the Church is experiencing Pentecost with leaven baked in.

God was doing a "new thing" or "things not as seen yet" with this feast day.
In was new to the believing Jews on the day of Pentecost, because they did not understand the Gentiles were
to be included in the reality of this feast.(Eph.2:1-19) Remember:This is the Tabernacle of David. (Phase 7)
It was new (i.e. things not as seen yet) to the Pharisees that believed.(Acts.15:5) They insisted the Gentiles that believed, must be circumcised and keep the Law of Moses in order to be righteous before God.(Gen.17:11, Deut.10:16) What they did not understand was that God had not changed His mind concerning circumcision continues in it's reality, in our Water Baptism. (Col.2:11-12, Rom.2:28-29, Phil.3:3, Gal.6:15)
It was new (i.e. things not as seen yet) to Peter who was told to "rise, Peter; kill, and eat" the common and unclean beasts, contrary to God's Law. (Lev.11:29-30) Peter later understood what God was saying to him in the vision. (Acts.10:1-34) This was a prophetic vision of the Gentiles being made clean in Christ. This was a problem for the believing Jews at Jerusalem for the next several years (Acts.8:5-25;11:1-3,19;15:1-6) because it was NEW to them, but NOT NEW to the purpose God.(Eph.3:1-12) It had already been proclaimed in His Word.(Rom.9:25-33;10:19-21)

At this feast of Pentecost, God structured His Church (Acts.2:42)
After Jesus resurrected, and purchased our redemption, (Passover) He appear to the disciples (John.20:22) and breathed on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. (i.e. born of the Spirit. John.3:3-7, Rom.8:9 / This was their Passover, coming out of Egypt / Brazen Altar / Red Sea, Laver Review phase 2, 4) Then Jesus told them to wait (Acts.1:4, Luke.24:49) for the promise of the Father at Jerusalem. (This is their Pentecost / Arriving at Mt. Sinai where the "Church in the wilderness" was structured and placed. Review phase 4) They "continued steadfastly (Acts.2:42) in the apostles doctrine." i.e. their structure, what they wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, Peter, John, Jude and Revelation. (This is their journey towards the Land, as in the pattern. Review phase 2. At our Pentecost, God structures us. He writes the Law on the fleshly tables of our hearts (2 Cor.3:1-18, Heb.10:16) and places us in the Body (Church) as it pleases Him around the true Tabernacle. (Num.1-4, Heb.8:1-5;9:1-26, 1 Cor.12:12-18) Then our journey continues to the true land, (Heb.4:1-11) and to the ultimate true rest, which is the true Temple of God, (Eph.2:20-22) a Glorious Church without spot or wrinkle.

There is still ANOTHER RAIN scheduled in God's Calendar for the Church (Deut.11:14)
There were two harvests in Israel's calendar year, and two rains that God gave in order for Israel to gather in the the corn, wine and oil. (Deut.11:14) The grain harvest of the wheat and corn, in the third month. (Exod.34:22, Deut.24:19, Deut.16:9-10) The fruit harvest of olives (oil) and grapes, (wine) in the seventh month. (Lev.26:4-5, Micah.4:1, Judges.8:2, Isa.24:1-3, Zech.11:2, Lev.23:39) The feast of Pentecost, is the reality of the "grain harvest."  God poured out His Spirit (the "former rain") and there was a great harvest gathered in. (Joel.2:23, Acts.2:17)
The pattern calls for another "rain" (Deut.11:14, Col.2:16-17, James.5:7) and another "harvest" to come,(Deut.11:14,Exod.34:22 "at years end," Matt.13:39,47-50, Rev.6:6) the "Fruit Harvest" in the seventh month. (Tabernacles Phase 11) Note:James.5:7-8 The context - "Second Coming" "at years end" Exod.34:22

Sinai / Pentecost was NOT the end of the journey! There was still a land to possess.
When God brought Israel out of Egypt, His purpose was to bring them into the Land promised to Abraham.(Deut.6:23, Gen.12:1;15:13-21, Deut.12:1-12) The ultimate rest in the Land was Solomon's Temple.(1Chron.17:1-9;22:1-19) Sinai (Pentecost) was a stop along the way. Remember, "this things happened unto them (the children of Israel) for "ensamples" (types) and they are written for our (the Churches) admonition." Our Salvation (Passover) was just the beginning, there is a journey that will not stop until the Church reaches a Holy Temple in the Lord. (Eph.2:1-22) The baptism in the Holy Spirit is not the end of the journey.

Note: God's Word says, Christ is our Passover, and the upper room was Pentecost (i.e. the feast 50 days after Passover), yet there is NO PLACE IN SCRIPTURE where it says, "And when the Feast of Tabernacles has come...." This Feast MUST be fulfilled BEFORE Jesus returns. (Acts.3:19-25, Rev.10:7;11:15)

Before studying the Feast of Tabernacles (Phase 11)  the order of events (Phase 10) needs to be understood, to develop a framework to place this feast into.
